Link Popularity – What Are Backlinks Anyhow?
February 1st, 2010It sounds as though it were somewhere you go after dark that you should not go. Only, backlinks are in reality a nice thing as far as becoming discovered on the Internet goes. Keep reading and you will learn all about them and how they can be valuable to you.
Backlink Basics To place it in the simplest terms, backlinks are tie-ins from different websites and blogs back to your website. They gain your visibility on the web and likewise make the search engines very happy with you. It sounds easy, but acquiring links could take some time and effort.
As browsers when we hit the search button on a search engine regarding a particular topic we are presented with a list of websites relating directly with our subject of search. We usually click on one of the first three websites on this list. Therefore, it is logical to want to have your own website featuring among the top of such lists.
How does Link Building Work?
Link building allows you to do just that. It generates traffic in a different way to your website. Search engines pay more attention to your website if it has many links attached to it.
When your website is linked with another website, it is known as link building. This means that when browsers visit either of the two websites they come across the other one. This provides a fair chance of traffic generation to the website that is linked to the website where the visitor originally is.
Link building can be done with the help of blogs. This is not the simplest task to accomplish though.
Quality Backlinks How do you decide quality? One way is to look at their following. Do they have a lot of readers? Are their articles ranked on the first page of search engine results? Does everyone know their name (just like “Law & Order”)?
Keep your links within your selected niche. While there may be some gardening websites with a high search engine ranking, linking here won’t do you any good if your website sells crafting supplies. The bots consider that as well.
So, what criteria do you need to consider when approaching the subject of backlinks?
• Select similar or better quality websites to use for your backlinks
• Choose websites and blogs with similar topics of interest as yours
• Ask friends and family members with websites (of good rep, of course) to exchange links with you Get the word out about your website. Use any resources you have available to you first and then go searching for other high-quality sites to bring you more traffic
