Third thing you could use is sandpaper.Sandpaper will help you smooth out surfaces that are rough which lets you apply a smooth coat of paint.

Fourth, a caulk gun you will need.All walls are far from perfect. It could have cracks on the wood base or trim.A caulking gun will cover it up and help make your surface smooth.
