Story Of My Journey Into Making Money From Home

The current recession has made it evident that even a “secure” job isn’t that secure at all. Personally, I haven’t really had any other jobs than temporary ones. And this in spite of having a Ph.D.

You see, in the academic world most positions are temporary and it is not until you become a Professor that you get a bit of job security. I never reached as far as to those pinnacles of achievment. Once I had a fellowship that enabled me to spend two years working at one of the most prestigious ivy-league universities in the United States — but that was as far as I got.

I remember that even back then I hated the academic world, and had vague ideas of starting a business of my own. I remember thinking about going for a degree in something like Business Administration — but felt very bored by that thought.

The thing is: suppose you have spent a heck of a long time getting an advanced degree — then the idea of going back to school again is not appealing. The thing is during one period I even had a nightmare: I was back in High School again — and that awful dream kept coming back! Not too pleasant, I’ll tell you. More like in the movie “Groundhog Day”, where the same day seems to repeat itself endlessly.

OK, I did at least manage to get out of Academia and get myself a job — in a small fledgling Biotech company. I got along fine with the bosses and the future looked rather bright. However, in only about a year things crashed. The company went bankrupt, and I no longer had a job.

My ex-bosses were nice people but they didn’t know how to run a company. They had spent money recklessly on fancy offices and such, oblivious to any warnings.

And now what? Now I spent all my energy groping for a business opportunity — it needed to get me on track really quickly. For several reasons, I had no other options. Now I wanted a work from home business. I was totally fed up with spending my days in some office, having to deal with office politics and so on.

Fortunately, I had a bit of knowledge about the Internet and I knew how to build web sites. Also I realized you could make money selling stuff online.

I happened to stumble on some ebook on the subject of making a good living as affiliate; ie. by marketing other people’s stuff. If I recall it correctly the ebook in question was by Rosalyn Gardner — I wouldn’t recommend it nowadays since I think it is now outdated. Nevertheless, it was useful back then.

I gleaned enough from that ebook to begin making some good cash promoting web hosting plans. Finally, I was able to work from home online and set my own hours. That is what I call freedom! At this time I have a whole bunch of blogs and web sites — one of the blogs is dBusinessOpportunity.com.

In conclusion — if you are looking for an opportunity to go into your own online business, then get some good current information on how to do affiliate promotion. There are thousands of products and services to choose between.
